Where is Hraunfossar Located?

Hraunfossar is situated in the Borgarfjörður region, about 1.5 hours’ drive from Reykjavik. The waterfalls cascade from beneath a lava field known as Hallmundarhraun, formed by an eruption of the nearby volcano Langjökull. This lava field creates a stunning backdrop for the falls, with water appearing to flow directly out of the rocks.

Nearby, you’ll also find Barnafoss (Children’s Falls), another iconic waterfall with a rich history and a contrasting appearance to Hraunfossar.
